Kaziranga National Park, Assam, India

Home to highly endangered one – horned Rhinoceros, KNP is located about 250 kms from Guwahati on National higyway 37.It was declared a sanctuary in 1950 & national park in 1974. Declared a UNESCO site in1985 its significance is that it is last undisturbed habitat of one-horned rhino having over 1500 rhinos & home to 70% of swamp buffalo population besides rare swamp deer. It has 1000 elephants, tigers & 450 species of birds. Isnt it an ideal place for wildlife sighting?

Best time to visit the park is November-April. This place is flooded by mighty Brahamputra during monsoon. The main tourist centre is at Kohara18km from Guwahati which hosts most hotels / resorts. The part has three ranges central, Western, Eastern & has different places for issuing permits for entry. Jeeps & elephant rides are available (book in advance).

Nearest airport & railhead is Jorhat(97km). One can approach by Guwahati(250km).It is a must visit place for wildlifers.
